"Don't I know you from somewhere?"
"You look so familiar"
hugs
smiles
laughter

implications of Wallflowers fanatics
discussed; intellectualized
are lost on the girl
with the red blouse

"Are you using this chair?"

Robert Frost
headlines
science fiction
chemistry texts
Pablo Neruda
fashion magazines
music reviews
consumed and digested
along with
bagels
croissants
and scones

trendy music accompanies
the lonely wail
of a passing train
complemented by casual conversation
of utmost importance
I like this song

the guy with the green mohawk
seduces the sultry redhead with the
nose ring
while cigarettes become
some secret language spoken in smoky silence
got a light?

cold fluorescence intrudes
on the moon's glowing caresses
as a gentle breeze flirts
with the warm night air
scented with mocha
and irish cream
with stars on top

ah! you lovely young people!
enjoy these times
as you gather with friends
to pass the time
unaware
that time is passing you
and these latte nights
of freedom and camaraderie
will one day come back to you
as you sit all alone
with your coffee
drinking memories
