Frida survived a bout of polio which permanently affected the use of her
right leg |
1922 |
Frida was accepted at the National Prep School, where she met Diego Rivera, who was there painting his mural The Creation. |
1925 |
On the 17th of September, Frida was in a street car accident and was critically injured. She began to paint during her convalescence. |
1926 |
Painted some of her first works including portraits of Alicia Galant, her
sister Adriana, Miguel N. Lira, and a self-portrait for Alejandro Gómez
Arias. |
1929 |
Married Diego Rivera on August 21. She was 21, he was 46. |
1933 |
Painted Mi Falda Colga Allá. |
1935 |
Frida and Diego separated temporarily. |
1938 |
From the 25th of October to the 14th of November, Frida gave her first exhibition en the Julian Levy gallery in New York. |
1939 |
Gave another exhibition in Paris. Sold her painting La Armadura.
Divorced Diego. |
1940 |
Frida and Diego re-married. She showed 2 of her paintings, Las Dos
Fridas, and La Mesa Herida in an exhibition called 20th Century
Mexican Art. |
1942 |
Included a self-portrait in an exhibition called Portraits of the 20th
Century, in the same museum. |
1943 |
Began teaching art at the Ministry of Public Education at La
Esmerelda. |
1944-53 |
Frida continued to paint. Her exhibitions grew in number and in
popularity. |
1946 |
Went to New York for surgury on her spine. |
1950 |
Was hospitalized for 9 months for a recurring spinal problem.

1954 |
Was hospitalized again in April and May. The 2nd of July she participated
in a demonstration against intervention by the U.S. in Guatemala, although
suffering from bronchial pneumonia. Frida died during the night on the 13th of
July. |
